PILLANI Recalls 25,762 Nursing Pillows Over Infant Suffocation Risk

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a nursing pillow recall on October 29, 2026, covering about 25,762 PILLANI U-shaped nursing pillows that can obstruct an infant’s breathing and pose a serious risk of injury or death from suffocation. The pillows, sold on Amazon this past spring and summer, violate the federal mandatory safety standard for nursing pillows. No injuries have been reported, but the agency is urging families to stop using them immediately and to seek a full refund.

What PILLANI recalled

The recall (CPSC Recall No. 27-047) involves PILLANI-branded U-shaped nursing pillows that have a smaller pillow attached on top and an adjustable waist strap. The recalled units carry model number NP4351 and one of three batch numbers printed on an attached label: 202604, 202605, or 202606. They were sold in a wide range of colors and prints, including cloud and stars, wild animal, white with leaf and feather, stars, pink with leaf, light blue, pink, light yellow, gray, light gray, beige, and light green.

The pillows were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from April 2026 through September 2026 for between $30 and $40. The recalling company is G.M.H.L. LLP, doing business as PILLANI, of Houston, Texas, and the products were manufactured in China. According to the CPSC notice, the pillows “can obstruct an infant’s breathing, posing a serious risk of injury or death from suffocation,” and they violate the mandatory safety standards for nursing pillows.

Why a nursing pillow recall matters for infant safety

Nursing pillows are designed to support a baby’s position during feeding while a caregiver is awake and holding the infant. They are not sleep products. The danger arises when a baby is left alone on or near one of these soft, curved cushions: an infant who cannot yet reposition their own head can roll into the pillow or into the gap it creates, pressing their nose and mouth against soft fabric and cutting off airflow. Because newborns have limited head and neck control, this can happen silently and quickly.

The risk is not hypothetical. When the CPSC adopted its first-ever federal safety standard for nursing pillows, the agency reported that nursing pillows were associated with 154 infant deaths and 64 serious injuries between 2010 and 2022. Most of those deaths involved infants under three months old who were sleeping with the pillows in adult beds, cribs, play yards, or on couches. A pillow that fails the mandatory firmness and design requirements, like the ones in this recall, reintroduces exactly the hazard the standard was written to remove.

What you should do

  • Stop using the pillow now. Check for model number NP4351 and batch number 202604, 202605, or 202606 on the attached label. If it matches, take it out of use immediately.
  • Contact PILLANI for a refund. Email pillanirecall@gmail.com or visit pill-ani.com/pages/recall. You will be asked to send a photo of the product, after which you will receive disposal instructions and a full refund.
  • Dispose of it as directed. Once you have the instructions, destroy and discard the pillow so it cannot be resold or reused by someone else.
  • Never use any nursing pillow for sleep. Use it only while you are awake and actively feeding or holding your baby, and put the pillow away the moment feeding ends.

What to do. If you own a recalled PILLANI nursing pillow, stop using it today, contact the company for a free refund, and follow the ABCs of safe sleep in the meantime: babies sleep safest Alone, on their Back, and in a bare Crib or bassinet with no pillows, blankets, or soft products of any kind.

Context and what’s next

This recall is a direct test of a rule that is still relatively new. For years, nursing pillows were sold with no mandatory federal safety requirements at all. That changed when the CPSC voted 5-0 in September 2024 to approve a Safety Standard for Nursing Pillows, which took effect in 2025. The rule sets firmness and thickness limits so the product cannot conform to a baby’s face, prohibits infant restraint systems, requires caregiver attachment straps to withstand a static load, and mandates conspicuous warning labels stating that babies have died using nursing pillows for sleep or lounging.

Products that meet the standard are now the norm on store shelves, which is part of why a noncompliant pillow is pulled rather than simply flagged. For shoppers, the practical takeaway is that an online listing being available on a major marketplace is not a guarantee a baby product meets current federal rules. Checking a nursing pillow for the required warning label, buying from sellers who clearly state compliance, and treating any firm cushion as a feeding aid rather than a resting place are the habits that close the gap between a recall notice and a safe nursery.

Families can confirm whether a product they own has been recalled, and sign up for future recall alerts, directly through the CPSC. Reporting a product-related injury or a dangerous item to the agency also feeds the data that drives recalls like this one, so a quick report can help protect other families.
